Beautiful part of the Durham heritage coastline. I have driven past on the main road so many times over the years and had no idea this car park was here.The small car park is well maintained, although unfortunately there was rubbish that had been dumped. Several footpaths lead off in different directions, and there are some lovely little signs with poetry and local information.The footpath leading through the dene and down to the beach was lovely, with lots to see and several benches along the way. The incline was not too steep, and means that the less physically able can access the beach. We talked to some people on the beach who had come down the cliff top footpath and told us that it was extremely steep and difficult with lots of steps.The beach was very interesting; it still has a very industrial look in many areas and is not the prettiest, although it has its own rugged beauty.
